"No Excuses"? No thank you 😑

training May 16, 2022

You would think that posting a picture of your client with abs and asking “what’s your excuse?” would be a thing of the past. Unfortunately it’s something I’ve seen recently.

Of course the intent behind the post was to celebrate the hard work put in by their client. But to show it with the message of “no excuses” is a little bit ignorant, in my opinion.

But I’m sharing this, not to shame anyone, but to hopefully open up another perspective for people who might think like that.

I used to post stuff like that.

I worked my ass off, showed loads of discipline, and wanted to show others they could do it too, if they just got rid of their “excuses”.

This was coming from a single 25 year old with nothing to do except train and work. I literally had no excuses, but I wasn’t aware that other people had some very valid excuses.

In fact, I’ve since learnt that everyone has a very different lifestyle and some people actually should not be striving for abs.

Some people’s version of their best selves, might be increasing the amount of sleep they get each night, while their kids are asleep.

Some people might be have a stressful job and it would be better for their health if they spent time meditating instead of going to a spin class.

Some people can’t afford fresh food, never mind protein supplements.

Your environment and lifestyle will shape your body composition.

The key to being happy is identifying what you CAN control and taking action.

And of course, practising acceptance around what you can’t control.

Not beating yourself up for having “excuses”.

This is another reason I don’t use the shape of my clients’ bodies to sell my program. Yes, there are amazing physical changes that will naturally fluctuate throughout their lives, but it’s the mental changes that bring a sense of peace and acceptance around their environment, values and their bodies.

Health and fitness will mean different things to different people but I’m hoping the fitness industry will move away from using a particular body at a particular point in time to sell services.
